MOTIVATING AMIDST NEGATIVITY AND GUIDING EFFECTIVELY

Early in my career I was told that 'Management is the art of getting things done from others'.  But when I grew and evolved to the point of managing others, I realized that getting things done by others was not as easy as it sounds.  I had to master three skills to manage effectively.  First, to manage well, I had to learn the art of motivating others well.  Motivation was a big part of managing.  The next important skill was getting others to think positively about the future.  A lot of people are habitually negative thinkers and no motivation works if negative thoughts are not managed.  And finally the challenge was guiding them effectively without directing them as to how to do the job.  Guiding is different from directing.  Guiding is empowering others to do the work in ways they feel that they have done it rather than being told to do it.  It therefore feels apt to think of managing as 'Motivating amidst negativity and guiding effectively'
