Being Smart means
SOMEHOW MANAGING (to) ACHIEVE RESULTS TACTFULLY.

Smart is commonly understood as “shrewd, sharp, clever and savvy”.  A smart person gets the desired results by being shrewd and tactful.  An intelligent person may have a lot of knowledge.  But knowing a great deal is not the same as being smart.  Accumulation of facts may make a person knowledgeable, but simplification of facts and applying them with good judgment makes a person smart.  That is why a knowledgeable person may have high IQ (Intelligent Quotient), but a smart person is likely to have high EQ (Emotional quotient).  Look at all the peak performers and high achievers in the field of business, sports, media etc.  Look at some of the world's richest people.  A lot of them have been school drop outs.  It just shows that a smart person can outperform an intelligent person.  That's why I would like to think of smart as “Somehow managing to achieve results tactfully”.
